3rd March 2002

Bikers N.I. completed their first motorcycle ride of the year with bikers being asked to donate £5 per bike to go to the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children by Master Beattie. About 100 bikes including a Ben's trike left Sprucefield Shopping Centre, Lisburn heading for Bangor in County Down with Big Geordie on his African Twin took the helm, this was 20 miles of a mixture of country roads, the busy city roads of Belfast and a long stretch of straight road between Belfast and Bangor.

Bangor allowed us to take a break so that we could either fill up or just get a warm drink, Big Geordie again took the lead us from one seaside town to our finishing point of Newcastle, County Down which is again another popular seaside resort in Northern Ireland. This part of the route allowed us to travel through some of Northern Ireland's best countryside and brought the people of Comber and Downpatrick to a stand still as the 100 bikes rumbled through these normally quiet towns, both young and old simply watched the many types of motorcycles roll by, some customised to an amount almost equal to their original cost.

On arrival in Newcastle the bikes parked in now a traditional bike park outside the Newcastle Tourist Information Centre, with most of the riders making their way to the Avoca Hotel who had kindly supplied the ride out a private room, sandwiches and a kind donation to our charity.

The day raised £250 for The Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children which will be handed over to them in due course.

Bikers N.I. will be holding their next club meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday 23rd April in the the 3 Crowns, Bridge Street, Lisburn. For more details please contact us at BikersNI@yahoo.com
